Two locally based solar and wind projects are among 27 to be successful in the latest auction for renewable electricity contracts.
43 in total across the country were entered under the latest Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction.
The Irish Independent’s reporting that four onshore wind farms, including Castlebanny in Kilkenny, and 23 solar ones, with one at Grangeford in Carlow, were successful.
They’re set to between them produce electricity equivalent to the needs of half a million homes.
Last November a High Court judge dismissed a challenge to the Castlebanny development for which 21 turbines each up to 185m in height are set to be installed within the townlands of Castlecosker, Derrynahinch, Kiltorcan, Coolroe Beg, Baunskeha, Castlebanny, Kilvinoge, Cappagh, Coolnahau, Ballytarsna, Mullennakill, Glenpipe, Ballymartin, Ballyvatheen, Ballynoony West, Derrylacky, Garrandarragh, Ballygegan and Ballyvool.
